Goodbye

Idea in short:
On Schiphol Plaza we will place a big plasma/lcd screen with camera. With this screen and camera you can tell your story to the world what you think of the Netherlands. Because it’s placed in a big database with an internet connection you can easily watch your small talk at home or share it with your friends.

People who tell their story also leave there email address, which you can choose to set it to the public or only private, because of privacy reasons. The Goodbye film takes place ion front a green screen so you can custom your scenario. You can either put your own picture you like of Holland or take a pre made theme, for example the seasonally theme’s or tourist places.

Throughout Schiphol Plaza small lcd/plasma screen will be placed, especially near cafeterias so people who are drinking a cup of coffee can enjoy randomly shown short movies of people who tell their story.
Improve

Goodbye screen is not a functional improvement for Schiphol, you can categorize it the entertainment section. All the information about flights, gates, shops etc. are available. Entertainment on the other hand is something that could get bigger in Schiphol. Most of the people in Schiphol are waiting, relaxing or strolling. But the only things you have are shops, dining area’s and lounges. These parks are of-course necessary during the waiting but during the relaxing people could be entertained more. This is why I think our concept fits in the picture of Schiphol. This will increase the happiness of many waiting and strolling people.

People who want to share their story can simply stand in front of the screen and camera. Before you start to tell your 1 minute story you first need to type/tell your name and where you are from, also an email so people can contact you. If you want to stay private, you can choose the hide option. This option will not show your email and where you are from.
Behind you there is a green screen, what is used for projections. What it is for, every one has a private story to tell. With each story goes a picture, would it not be nice of you can project your own picture behind you?
The possibilities with the green screen are:
- Project your favorite photo
- Pre made photos
- Use other peoples photos

Each clip has a unique number for cross reference and quick look up for the internet.

When you are finished with your story the clip is stored in a database. Throughout Schiphol small lcd/plasma screen will be placed, especially near cafeterias so people who are drinking a cup of coffee can enjoy randomly shown short movies of people who tell their story. The database distributes the short clips with a pattern throughout Schiphol. For example there are 100 short clips. If you are standing in departure 3 the database shows clip 1, at the same time it shows clip 20 at departure 1. It calculates the walking distance between the hales so you can’t the same clip twice.

A second database who also stores the clips is specially made for the internet. Life stream lets you see the clips, with a download option. But the download capacity is kept at a certain download speed so the life stream doesn’t suffer from long buffer time. On the internet site you can check the email and names of the persons who made the clip. For some reason you want to contact them

The reason why we have 2 databases is because 1 is constantly showing and calculating data on Schiphol. New clips are added to the database to be shown at Schiphol. We want to keep the local database free from the internet, because Internet takes a lot of data stream which makes the database slower.

Short example:
Maria and Luna, from Spain, visited the Netherlands for 1 week. The first few days they did some sightseeing throughout the country. Lucky for them its nice weather so the pictures they took will turn out okay. During the weekend the did some serious clubbing in Amsterdam.
After they checked in for their flight back home they were walking around Schiphol. They saw the Goodbye stand and want to make a clip. They saw the option to create your own background, so they took out their camera’s and uploaded a picture. After this they inserted their email and names its time to tell the story. 1 minute of complete insaneness in front of the camera. When they saw the clip they laughed and laughed. They wrote down the unique number and messaged their friend the number and site. When Maria and Luna walked to the gate they saw themselves on a screen near a restaurant.

Future scenario
A possibility for future user is the usage of mobile phones. This way you can record your own clip and send it to the database. Why we don’t want is right know is because the quality of clips is to low, 640 x 480 is the highest atm. Perhaps in a couple of years, maybe next year the pixel density is twice as high as it is now.
